Underwater ROVs – is there place for them in South Africa?
Underwater drones (ROVs) have been gaining popularity over last few years.
They are submersible, waterproof and capable of taking amazing underwater footage.
If you’d like to explore shipwrecks, get close to aquatic nature, or take your fishing trips to another level, then you need one of the best underwater drones on the market – the Youcan BW Space Pro 4K. It comes in wide field and Zoom version, sports a large 1.7/1.8″ sensor (version dependent) and is capable of 4K footage.
But – here is the thing. In South Africa, ocean is turbulent. You will not be able to launch it from the shore, as the waves are too strong and it will be washed out. So to use it to full potential you have to take it out into the ocean on a boat. We tested the BW Space Pro in the rock pools in Herold’s Bay and the visibility and manoeuvrability was good, so given the right conditions this piece of equipment will be great addition for deep sea fishing, diving and snorkelling!
